The LMI, a healthy recovery & tariff effects - InTek Podcast Ep 49

Written by Kevin Baxter | Nov 14, 2024

As the freight market stagnated over the past couple of years, shippers, providers and observers were on the lookout for signs of a recovery. One of the top indicators of the industry's health is the Logistics Managers Index (LMI), and its head author Dr. Zac Rogers, Assistant Professor of Operations & Supply Chain with Colorado State University, joins the latest InTek Freight & Logistics: The Podcast to discuss what it shows.

Zac tells us how its monthly surveys of logistics leaders show a market headed towards a healthy recovery instead of one jolted to life by an unforeseen circumstance. He also goes over how interest rates and the economy as a whole have dovetailed with this slower climb, and how last week's election results and potential Trump Administration policies like tariffs could affect freight's trajectory moving forward.

Backing up, we discuss the origins of the LMI, what it's historically shown and how Zac got into the field. Plus, he tells us what respondents' outlook is for the industry over the next year. And we go over teaching supply chain and student interest - and how that's evolved even since the pandemic.
