The Port of Long Beach with Noel Hacegaba - InTek Podcast Episode 46

Written by Kevin Baxter | Oct 8, 2024

Just a couple of episodes after discussing the somewhat unknown and surprisingly robust freight activities of the Ports of Indiana, we turn to one of the most well-known and busiest ports in the world, the Port of Long Beach (POLB). COO Dr. Noel Hacegaba joins us on Episode 46 of InTek Freight & Logistics: The Podcast to discuss a busy year at the Southern California facility, what goes into its operations, and its continuous expansion efforts to handle increased traffic.

Plus, we discuss the implications of the East Coast port strike - which at the very least paused a couple days after our interview, the port's on-dock rail facilities, why intermodal is so important to freight's success in the region, and POLB's constant focus on sustainability. In that vein, Noel discusses electric trucks for drayage, building infrastructure to support electrification, intermodal's place in environmental responsibility, planning for sea level rise, and much more.

We also go over Noel's (and Shelli's) membership on the Intermodal Association of North America (IANA) board, its focus on educating new industry leaders and the outlook for the organization. And we wrap up with a discussion of the appropriately named band, the TEUs, which features POLB employees - including Noel.
