The California AB5 law continues to face legal challenges - even while it is technically in effect. That makes for a difficult environment for independent truck drivers and anyone who uses their services. On this episode of InTek Freight & Logistics: The Podcast, Paul Torlina, Government Affairs Counsel with the Owner-Operator Independent Driver Association (OOIDA) joins us to explain AB5 (short for Assembly Bill 5), how it's affecting trucking - particularly interstate truck drivers, and where things stand in the courts after last month's hearing.
Paul discusses what the latest round of legal challenges center on - the Commerce Clause and Equal Protection - and why he believes AB5 violates both when it comes to truck drivers. He shares what OOIDA and others are hoping to accomplish in the court system and the still rather lengthy expected timeline of that process. Outside of AB5, Paul also tells us about OOIDA and what the organization has to offer - particularly in this challenging environment for owner-operators.
