InTek Freight & Logistics Renews EPA SmartWay Transport Partnership

September 8, 2022 Kevin Baxter

InTek SmartWay

InTek Freight & Logistics, Inc. today announced it has successfully renewed its status with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) SmartWay® Transport Partnership. The partnership is an innovative collaboration between the EPA and environmentally responsible companies in the transportation industry. It provides a framework to assess the environmental and energy efficiency of goods movement supply chains. InTek submitted its data in support of SmartWay environmental responsibility criteria and received approval for its current data submission, renewing its partner status for another year.

That means InTek will continue to contribute to the Partnership’s savings of 336 million barrels of oil, $44.8 billion on fuel costs, 143 million metric tons of CO2, 2.7 million short tons of NOx toxic gases and 112,000 short tons of PM (particulate matter). This is the equivalent of the annual electricity use in 21 million homes. By continuing its SmartWay Transport Partnership which dates to 2010, InTek demonstrates its strong environmental leadership and corporate responsibility.

“At InTek, we take environmental responsibility in our own supply chain activities and those of companies we work with seriously,” said Rick LaGore, InTek CEO. “Our continued partner status with EPA SmartWay shows our ongoing commitment to supply chain sustainability and reducing the environmental impact of freight and logistics activities."

Developed jointly in early 2003 by EPA and Charter Partners represented by industry stakeholders, environmental groups, American Trucking Associations, and Business for Social Responsibility, the SmartWay program celebrated its 10 year anniversary in 2014. Partners rely upon SmartWay tools and approaches to track and reduce emissions and fuel use from goods movement. The Partnership currently has nearly 4,000 Partners including shippers, logistics companies, truck, rail, barge, and multimodal carriers. Interested companies that ship or carry freight or coordinate logistics can apply for free to become SmartWay certified. For more information about the SmartWay Transport Partnership visit www.epa.gov/smartway.
