InTek Maintains EPA SmartWay Certified Status into 2024

Another year, another continuation of InTek's status as EPA SmartWay Certified. This month, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) approved InTek's renewal through August 2024, maintaining the third-party logistics provider as a SmartWay Partner for its 14th year. InTek submitted the required environmental responsibility data to the EPA, which validated continued SmartWay certification.

What Is the EPA SmartWay Transport Partnership?

The EPA SmartWay Transport Partnership was established in 2004, with the goal of helping companies advance supply chain sustainability through a system of measuring, benchmarking, and improving the efficiency of freight transportation. Freight & logistics companies (and affiliates) can voluntarily become SmartWay certified by measurably committing to reduce their environmental footprint. Businesses that may become partners can be shippers, carriers or logistics companies, while those companies not directly involved in freight can still become affiliates.

The EPA SmartWay Partnership has been a key driver of systems to better collect data on emissions and fuel use, which in turn has helped shippers, carriers and logistics service providers address any shortcomings in their drive for freight sustainability. The program has led to savings of more than 357 million barrels of oil, $47.6 billion on fuel costs, 152 million metric tons of CO2, 2.7 million short tons of NOx toxic gases and 112,000 short tons of PM (particulate matter). This is the equivalent of the annual electricity use in 23 million homes.

SmartWay partners like InTek demonstrate a commitment to strong environmental leadership and corporate responsibility. There are currently nearly 4,000 Partners including shippers, logistics companies, truck, rail, barge, and multimodal carriers - as well as their customers. Interested companies that ship or carry freight or coordinate logistics can apply for free to become SmartWay certified.
